POST-DOC POSITION FOR THE MAGIC UPGRADE

The MAGIC collaboration magic.mppmu.mpg.de invites applications for a two year post-doc position in the field of ground-based GeV-TeV Cherenkov Astrophysics. The successful candidate will work in the Pisa/INFN MAGIC group(http://www.pi.infn.it/magic/) for the first year and play a major role in the

prototyping and commissioning of the novel readout system of the two MAGIC telescopes based on the domino ring sampler 4. In the second year, the successful candidate is expected to work on the installation and commissioning of the readout

system in La Palma. She/he will also play a major role in the upgrade of the MAGIC-I camera, which will happen simultaneously with the readout upgrade. She/he will also have the opportunity to work in the MAGIC data analysis, publish results, attend conferences and join other activities of the collaboration.

Applicants should hold a PhD degree either in Physics, Astrophysics or Engineering, with focus on experimental developments. Experience in the field of detectors for high energy astrophysics is welcome but not mandatory. The position is available as early as January 1, 2010, and will stay open until it is filled. The contract is initially for 2 years, with a possible extension depending on further funding of the project.
