Next SISSA Astrophysics, Astroparticle and J

Dear all,

here below you find the list of the next Colloquia at SISSA.

As you notice from the subject, the Joint Colloquia in
Astrophysics from the astronomy department, observatory,
ICTP and SISSA are starting again, third thursday in the
month, 4pm, starting in January. A couple of them
have been scheduled, already, see below.

They are listed with more details at www.sissa.it/ap/
and www.sissa.it/he/

enjoy,

the LOC, Carlo Baccigalupi, Andrea Ferrara, Paolo Salucci

Cosmological particle production in Bose gases: Theory and simulation

                              Abstract

We investigate the analogue of cosmological particle creation in an expanding universe by numerically simulating a Bose--Einstein condensate with a time-dependent scattering length. In particular we mimic also a de-Sitter spacetime which is particularly relevant in inflationary cosmology.  We show that --- within the (low energy) acoustic approximation --- the numerically observed particle production is consistent with the underlying theory.  When the system is considered  beyond the acoustic approximation (high energies) there is a breakdown of Lorentz invariance for the excitation spectrum. In this case the Bose condensate can be
viewed as a more general toy-model for a modified quantum field theory arising from quantum gravity.  We discuss in this case the cosmological particle production with particular attention to the deviations from the standard scenario and their possible observational consequences.
